The David & Beverly Nash Leadership Award

The David and Beverly Nash Leadership Award is an annual accolade honoring outstanding achievements in government procurement. This prestigious award recognizes individuals or teams who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and innovation in public purchasing practices. The award highlights the transformative impact of exemplary procurement practices on government efficiency, transparency, and public trust.

David Nash, friend and mentor to so many, is a highly esteemed figure in the procurement community, celebrated for his significant contributions and leadership. A key contributor to Radio NIGP, David has enriched the field with innovative ideas such as the "Question of the Day," aiding numerous professionals in achieving their procurement certifications.

David's distinguished career includes 20 years of service in inventory management as a Chief Warrant Officer Three in the United States Army, retiring in 1988. He later dedicated 18 years to warehousing and procurement for the City of Fort Lauderdale, retiring in 2007.

David holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration. He served as the final President of the Governmental Purchasing Association of Southeast Florida, successfully merging it with the SE Florida Chapter of NIGP in 2001. He also led the Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials (FAPPO) as President from 2006 to 2007.

David’s accolades include the prestigious NIGP Leadership Award (2023), FAPPO’s George H. Wolf Distinguished Service Award (2010, 2019), and Educator of the Year Award (2014). He was honored with the "Spirit of NIGP Award" in 2013 for his online "Question of the Day," which has helped thousands prepare for their CPPB, CPPO, and NIGP-CPP exams. Additionally, David received NIGP’s Distinguished Service Award in 2018 for his overall contributions to the procurement profession.

David is a certified NIGP instructor and served on the National Procurement Institute’s Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award Evaluation Committee from 2010 to 2013. He has been a multiple-time guest on The Big Bid Theory podcast, where he has helped shape the content and format, sharing his invaluable insights and expertise.

Throughout his journey, David’s wife Beverly has been a steadfast support, often accompanying him on his professional engagements and contributing to his success and the success of others.

Criteria for Selection:

  1. Excellence:
    • Demonstrated outstanding performance in procurement activities.
    • Implementation of best practices leading to significant improvements in procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
  2. Leadership:
    • Strong leadership skills that inspire and motivate others.
    • Significant contributions to the development and mentorship of procurement professionals.
  3. Innovation:
    • Introduction of innovative procurement strategies or technologies.
    • Successful implementation of creative solutions to complex procurement challenges.
  4. Transparency:
    • Commitment to transparency and ethical practices in procurement.
    • Enhancing public trust through open and fair procurement processes.

Selection Process:

  1. Nomination:
    • Open nominations from peers, supervisors, and stakeholders.
    • Based on the criteria above, nominees must provide detailed descriptions of their contributions.
  2. Submission:
    • Nominees submit a comprehensive portfolio including:
      • Detailed description of achievements.
      • Evidence of impact (e.g., case studies, metrics).
      • While not mandatory, letters of recommendation, are beneficial.
  3. Evaluation:
    • A diverse panel of judges, including previous 'The Big Bid Theory' guests, procurement experts, government officials, and industry leaders, will review submissions.
    • Judges will score each nomination based on the established criteria.
  4. Selection:
    • The panel will select finalists based on scores and deliberation.

    • Procurement experts from various levels of government.
    • Representatives from industry associations.
    • Previous 'The Big Bid Theory' guests.
    • 'The Big Bid Theory' staff.
  • Diversity:
    • We will ensure diverse representation in terms of geography, gender, and sector to promote balanced and fair evaluations.

  3. Evaluation Period:
    • November 1st - November 15th
  4. Award Selection & Presentation:
